Monday of Passion Week:
Jesus and the disciples have spent the night in Bethany, probably at the home of His friends Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. In the morning, the group walks the 3 miles to Jerusalem. Along the way, Jesus discovers a fig tree which looks good but produces no fruit. He curses it and it becomes an analogy of a life that looks good on the outside, but does not have Christ inside.
He goes into the temple and overturns the tables of the money-changers a second time, shouting that His Father’s house is a house of prayer. Some of the Sadducees confront Jesus about His teaching but His responses completely shut them down.
Jesus leads His disciples to the Mount of Olives and overlooks the city. He weeps and laments that He came to gather His people together, but they had rejected Him, and His offer of salvation.
The team returns to Bethany late in the day.
